What resolution is recommended for images in my artwork?

While our printers are capable of higher, a file resolution of 300dpi, at actual size, is recommended as a minimum in order to achieve a quality print.

What does ‘at actual size’ mean? Actual size means that when you have a 300dpi image that is 300 pixels by 300 pixels, then if it is printed at any more than an inch by an inch, it will no longer be considered 300dpi.

Similarly, a 100dpi image, printed at a third of it’s size, will in fact be printed at 300dpi.

Confused? Resolution can be one of those things that seems deliberately confusing! However, you can rest assured, that when submitting your artwork, we will always check your file and notify you at the time of your soft proof if we feel the print will be low resolution.
